Levels of Schematicity in Metaphorical Animal Nicknames: The Case Study of Koczkodan Nickname in Polish

The aim of this paper is to recognise the contemporary meaning nickname koczkodan in Polish [English: hag, frump; literally: a vervet monkey], based on extracts real discurse taken from Corpus. This has been obtained by examining metaphors underlying nickname, which are motivated various contextual factors, e.g. speaker’s gender and discourse registers phrase pronounced. Accordingly, working CMT-CMA hybrid model applied for purpose study, derives both extended view Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) discursive critical metaphor within Critical Analysis (CMA). results study reveal that six metaphorical dynamic structures organised hierarchically, most schematic image schema emerges at very moment when speaker needs use through more detailed levels domains frames, until level mental spaces reached. great importance new as integration two incompatible input (animal human characteristics) blended form one single space. generation novel Polish, makes reference not only one’s physical ugliness but also evil character traits.
